Meet Alex and Sam, a married couple.
Alex loved his new direct-selling business. He was great at showing people the business opportunity and the products and getting them excited. But his wife Sam wasn't happy. Alex missed family dinners and spent a lot of money on the business. Sam felt like she was losing her husband to this new business venture.
This happens to many people in direct selling. While things look good outside, hidden problems can hurt the business and the family.
Main Hidden Problems and How to Fix Them:
1. Time Problems:
- Hidden Problem: Team members don't spend enough time with family.
- Fix: Help them plan their week. Make sure they have time for family, work, and business. In many cases, both partners get involved in the business, or one partner supports the other by doing the organizational part.
- What to do: Give your team a weekly planner and show them how to use it.
2. Money Worries:
- Hidden Problem: The business costs too much and causes stress.
- Fix: Teach them to use money from sales to reinvest part of it back in their business and personal development. Conduct managing finances training for people to save 20 to 40 percent of their income for reinvesting in their growth.
- What to do: Make a simple tool to track business money coming in and going out.
3. Family Troubles:
- Hidden Problem: Husband or wife doesn't like the business.
- Fix: Tell team members to talk openly about the business at home. Include their partner in making goals. Include partners in business meetings and give them tasks to support the business, so they value and appreciate it.
- What to do: Have events where partners can learn about the business and meet others.
4. Expecting Too Much:
- Hidden Problem: People get sad when they don't get rich quick. Many aren't patient, forgetting they spent years in school for a minimum-wage job.
- Fix: Tell people from the start that it takes time to build a good business. It's a 2 to 5 year plan for financial freedom.
- What to do: Make a 3-month plan for new people with small, doable goals. Use a 90-day Plan training.
5. No Balance in Life:
- Hidden Problem: People work too much and feel guilty about ignoring other things.
- Fix: Explain that delayed gratification and early sacrifice are crucial for long-term financial freedom. Also, tell people it's okay to care for themselves and their families while building the business.
- What to do: Share stories of people who do well in business and still have a good family life.
6. Not Enough Training:
- Hidden Problem: People don't know how to handle business problems.
- Fix: Give lots of training. Teach about products, selling, managing time, and dealing with money.
- What to do: Make a training program that teaches all parts of running a direct selling business.
Creating a Team That Talks About These Things:
To keep your team strong, make it okay to talk about these problems. Tell your team to:
1. Ask their family how they feel about the business.
2. Be honest about business money with their husband or wife.
3. Be happy about small wins, not just big ones.
4. Tell others when they have problems and ask for help.
5. Learn how to be a better person, not just a better seller.
Good direct-selling businesses are built on good relationships at home and with the team. By fixing these hidden problems, you're helping your team have better businesses and happier lives.
